Fez for Prez

Monday is President's Day and should be a heart-filled observance by everyone for the dedication our forefathers had in making our country what it is today. Of course, George Washington was our first...Abe Lincoln was noted for many great deeds...Teddy and Frank D made their mark...."give 'em hell Harry"is remembered for certain benchmarks...but no one can remember the want-to-be's...the one's who had a claim to fame but didn't make it up that San Juan Hill on election Day. So for this Presidents Day, we in Paint Bank would like to remember one of our own.....Fezwald Penderhook. Fez, for short, was a tall statue of a man and had been planning to run for president since the day he was 16 years old. Fez had a long lineage in Potts Creek Valley and it seemed it was his intent-in-purpose to continue that lineage in a big way....I mean Big! You've heard of a gaggle of geese, a flock of birds, a herd of Buffalo...a Murder of Crows...well Fez had a large distinction...he was the proud Paterfamilias of his own personal campaign party of 17...each child with it's own purpose in the party strategy. And to just what their special great secret was....well that had been breasted closely till the day he threw his hat in the ring. On the morning of that great historic occurrence, Fez's
wife, Fiona dressed all of the 17 kids in red-white and blue...lined the up according to age...marched to town with he and his wife pulling up the rear. As the town proper drew closer, it seemed the birds sang louder, the dogs baked more, the cows mooed more harmoniously and Fez's smile grew broader...his life-long plan was to come to fruition. Stopping his beloved group right on the dirt square, he motioned to Ted "toots" Theilman who promptly heralded on his harmonica...de de de dede de. In unison each child put his hand on his waist, lifted his red, white and blue shirt to expose their midriff. On each...in perfectly matching font was a single letter that spelled out....
F E Z W A L D P E N D E R H O O K... on Fez was
..FOR..on Fiona was..PREZ
Well at this sudden exposure, the crowd burst into applause and it seemed, even though Fez never really ran for President, he knew he would always be remembered for what he had accomplished. And this, my friend, is more than some who actually won the job could boast. Maybe, just having enough kids to carry your name is enough...I don't know...I could be wrong.

Only 32 days till Spring.

Question of the Day...How did the pretzel originate?

The pretzel is a traditional Lenten food that originated over a thousand years ago. Some say that it was made to resemble arms crossed in prayer. In fact, "pretzel" may have come from the Latin word, braceilae, meaning little arms.
